With over a hundred add-ons in our Firefox extensions category, it's often hard to find the cream of the crop. We've been tracking our favorites since the announcement of the Extend Firefox contest back in December 2005, and we've collected 10 more extensions that we adore. From downloading Internet video to following the World Cup, these add-ons should satisfy you die-hard Firefox fans.
Even better, several of these great extensions are already ahead of the curve for Firefox 2.0, codenamed Bon Echo. DownThemAll, MR Tech Local Install, FireFTP, and Scrapbook are all compatible with Bon Echo. Don't overload on extensions, however. If you find that these new tools are slowing down your browsing, check out our tips for optimizing Firefox. Tell us about your own favorite Firefox extensions at the bottom of this page. If you don't have Mozilla Firefox, get the official release now.
Perfect for image hunters, this download manager finds everything downloadable on a page and lets you designate which files you'd like to download. You can pause and resume downloads. DownThemAll also features a download accelerator for speedier transfers.
As the perfect Firefox accessory for the World Cup, this extension updates scores in real-time to help you follow your favorite teams. After the Cup, you can track European professional leagues in 18 countries and counting.
This elegant extension won't improve your workflow, but it's definitely easy on the eyes. Colorful Tabs automatically gives each tab in your browser a different color for easier readability. You can also set unused tabs to fade while you're using the active tab.
With one click on a small button in the bottom-right corner, you can download Flash videos from sites like YouTube and Google Video. Be sure to rename your file with a FLV extension to watch it. This extension also allows you to download other embedded media from Web pages.
Clicking buttons is overrated. This excellent hybrid of the old Mouse Gestures extension and a collection of tools for alternative navigation methods lets you perform almost every action in Firefox with a quick swipe.
For those of us who previously used a separate client to transfer files to and from FTP sites, this simple but brilliant extension is a godsend. In a way similar to Gmail Space, FireFTP transfers files directly from a new Firefox tab or window.
Google is great for global information, but what if you want to search locally? With Loki Firefox toolbar, you just enter a term like "pizza" to find all the pizza joints in your area. It also offers several categories so you can narrow your search for what you want--all near your ZIP code.
For Firefox users who want to delve into the nitty-gritty of managing extensions, this add-on hacks the default extension and theme tools in Firefox to give you much more control. It also adds the invaluable "Restart Firefox" functionality.
If you like using lots of tabs, this extension was made for you. Mousing over the Tab Catalog icon or hitting Alt-Tab will display a page that shows each window's open tabs. From there, click the thumbnail you want, and Firefox will snap to that page.
If you want a quick way to save Web pages--or even elements of a page, like a recipe or definition--ScrapBook is all you need. You can drag images, blocks of text, and links to the sidebar to save them in an easy-to-navigate directory.
